TIKI Modern Tropical Cocktails
by Shannon Mustipher
TIKI by Shannon Mustipher is a beautiful cocktail book photographed by Noah Feck and contains the classics as well as modern interpretations and recipes of tiki drinks and Polynesian cocktails. This should be required reading for anyone interested in the resurgence of tiki cocktails or anyone interested in craft mixology. The book goes into details about garnishes (including those cool dehydrated citrus wheels), tools, tips, syrups and of course spirits. Even those you would not suspect might be in tiki drinks like Mezcal and tequila.
The book is about 200 pages and the recipes range from easy to slightly more complex. I’ve only had the book a few days and I already made several with the Dr. Bodi Hai being my most favorite pictured above.
Having met the author in person, Shannon’s first love is rum, but don’t make the mistake of thinking this book is only on rum-based cocktails. At a retail price of $24.95 you can’t go wrong with this book even if its simply looking at the beautifully photographed cocktails and seeing how Shannon Mustipher takes them to the next level. While I love books, I generally buy the electronic version first because I simply don’t have enough room to fit them all, but this is one that is only in print and is a fixture on my coffee table at home because its so well done.
