Peligroso Old Fashioned

Peligroso Old Fashioned

I came across this while in Aruba at the Blue Bar at the Renaissance Marriott located in the downtown shopping district.  While I did not have one at the hotel, when I got home I tried to re-create it since it seemed simple enough. I drink old fashioned cocktails all the time.  This one had a twist which was the Sweet Red Bell Pepper Syrup instead of sugar or simple syrup.

Instead of garnishing with a cherry or orange rind, it has a fresh (not pickled) jalapeño pepper. This drink has a bit of heat, and it is not from the bourbon. It is not for everyone but it is interesting.

  • 1 Ounce (30ml) Sweet Red Bell Pepper Syrup
  • 2 Ounces (60ml) Bourbon whiskey
  • 1 thin slice Jalapeño for garnish
  • Dash of Angostura Bitters or Fee Brother’s Orange Bitters

Simply stir all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and pour into a new glass with a single large ice cube. Place jalapeño slice on top of the cube and serve cold. Enjoy!
