1953   Clarence Saunders dies, founder of Piggly Wiggly grocery stores.

1955  American Chef Thomas Keller was born.

1957  Joseph J. Magliocco born, president of Michter’s Whiskey and Chatham Imports which specialize in wine and other fine spirits.

1962  Irma S. Rombauer dies, author of ‘The Joy of Cooking’ – one of the most published cookbooks.

1978  US President Jimmy Carter signs a bill legalizing home brewing which allows up to 200 gallons per household.
