1846  Carrie Amelia Moore Nation born, a radical American temperance movement leader most noted for using a hatchet to destroy saloons.

1884  John Mayenberg receives the first US patent for the process to produce evaporated milk.

1884  The Nestle trademark is registered.

1915  Edwin Traisman born, the food scientist who developed the process for freezing McDonald’s french fries, and the development of Cheez Whiz.

1950  Rudolph Boysen dies, he was horticulturist who developed the boysenberry, a raspberry-blackberry hybrid in 1923.

2010  Bernard Matthews dies, founder of Britain’s largest turkey processor.
