The Moscow Mule cocktail is basically started the vodka craze which later went on to dominate over the spirit of choice because it is so mixable with practically anything.
George Sinclair quotes from a 2007 article run in the New York Herald Tribune:
The mule was born in Manhattan but “stalled” on the West Coast for the duration. The birthplace of “Little Moscow” was in New York’s Chatham Hotel. That was back in 1941 when the first carload of Jack Morgan’s Cock ‘n’ Bull ginger beer was railing over the plains to give New Yorkers a happy surprise.
Today it is making a huge comeback, and while you might not need the copper mug, it certainly enhances the experience a great deal.
- 60ml or 2 ounces Vodka
- 120ml or 4 oz of Ginger Beer or Ginger Ale
- 15ml Fresh Lime Juice
- Mix all ingredients into a copper mug and stir, garnish with lime wedge
In this variation I used Crop Organic Cucumber vodka to give it an extra kick (no pun intended). This gives it a lighter more spring-time tasting cocktail for the coming warmer weather.
