1764  Charles Grey born. Earl Grey was supposedly given the recipe for Earl Grey Tea by a Chinese mandarin with whom he was friends.

1813  Famed restauranteur Lorenzo Delmonico born, He later transformed his uncle’s pastry shop into one of the oldest and most famous restaurants in Manhattan and the country.

1893  The original Waldorf Hotel opens with 450 rooms and nearly 1,000 employees.

2006  Robert C. Baker dies at age 84, the founder of the chicken nuggets.
