1802  French author Alexandre Dumas born, and well known as a gourmet who wrote ‘Grand Dictionnaire de la cuisine.’

1936  The Army Subsistence Research Laboratory opens, devoted solely to developing foods for the Army.

1938  Nestle introduces Nescafe Instant Coffee in Switzerland.
