1853  The first World’s Fair in the US opened in New York.

1906  Tom Carvel was born, inventor of the soft-serve ice cream machine.

1948  Harry Brearley dies, inventor of stainless steel in 1913.

1998  Richard McDonald dies, one of the brothers who founded the original McDonald’s restaurant and designer of the golden arches logo.
