National English Toffee Day

1800  London opens the first kitchens in order to to serve the poor.

1935  Elvis Presley, The King of Rock & Roll is born in Memphis, Tennessee. His favorite sandwich was known as a grilled peanut butter, bacon and banana. While his daughter Lisa Marie claims he never saw him eat one, the legend sticks.

1940  Britain’s Ministry of Food started rationing butter, sugar and bacon.

1945  Brantford in Ontario Canada is the first community to fluoridate the water supply.
