National Whipped Cream Day

1589  Catherine de Medici dies.  The wife of King Henry II of France. She is often called the ‘mother of French haute cuisine’ because the Italian chefs she brought with her from Florence.

1786  Thomas Nuttall born. A English naturalist and botanist who studied plants in the United States, especially around the Chesapeake Bay.

1794  Edmund Ruffin born, considered the father of soil chemistry in the USA.

1889  The word ‘hamburger’ first appears in the Oxford English Dictionary

1914  Aaron ‘Bunny’ Lapin was born. In 1948 he invented whipped cream in an aerosol can (Reddi-Wip) in 1948.

1943  George Washington Carver dies. An African American agricultural scientist and innovator who developed hundreds of uses for peanuts, soybeans and sweet potatoes.

1956  Chinese Chef Chen Kenichi born. Best known for his role on the TV series ‘Iron Chef’,  He is the only Iron Chef to have held his position throughout the life of the show.

2007  Momofuku Ando dies in Osaka, Japan.  He was the founder of Nissin Food Products who invented Instant Ramen noodles.
