St. Anthony the Abbot, Patron Saint of Pigs & Butchers

St. Anthony, a patron of pigs, swineherds and butchers is commonly portrayed with a pig. As such, over time, he has come to be commonly known as the Patron Saint of Bacon.

1893 Hawaii’s monarchy overthrown by businessmen and sugar planters and force Queen Liliuokalani to abdicate.

1929  Comic strip character Popeye the spinach loving sailor first appears.

2001  Norway lifts the ban on exports of whale meat.
