When the weather is cold or when you are suffering from a cold this should do the trick, even if temporarily. It has all he components the doctor would recommend, honey, fresh lemon, hot water or tea and the spirit of your choice. Rum was originally used, but you can use bourbon, brandy or even cognac. It should be one of the sweeter spirits that has been aged in wood. You can even replace honey with maple syrup. There are no rules to a hot toddy, as long as it is what you like. Here is one of the many variations.
- 50ml (1.5 oz.) Dark Rum
- 10ml (2 teaspoons) Fresh Lemon Juice
- 10ml (2 teaspoons) Honey, Clove Syrup or Cinnamon Syrup
- Lemon slice, cloves and/or cinnamon stick as a garnish
In a ceramic mug dissolve the honey and lemon juice in hot water, add in rum, garnish, drink while hot.
