1617  Italian botanist Prospero Alpini died.  He had introduced coffee and bananas to Europe.

1829  Bollinger Renaudin & Cie established, the producers of Champagne Bollinger.

1864  Frederic Tudor dies. “The Ice King” created an export trade for block ice harvested from frozen ponds in New England.  The ice was shipped in insulated cargo holds to the Caribbean, India and Europe.

1937  Robert H. Brooks born, founder of The Hooters restaurant chain.

1985  Perrier introduces its first new product in 125 years, Perrier Lemon.  Other flavors followed.
