1896  Caesar Cardini born in Italy.  He was a chef and restaurateur in the United States and Mexico and credited with creating the Caesar Salad at his restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico in the 1920s.

1938  DuPont begins production of nylon toothbrush bristles. Previously they used hog hair.

1955  Steven Jobs born. The co-founder of Apple computer company, a pescatarian, and according to the company, he grew up in the orchards which later became known as Silicon Valley.

1989  A fossil egg found in Utah which was 150 million years old.

2003  French Chef Bernard Loiseau commits suicide.  Owner of La Cote d’Or, a Michelin three-star recipient, the highest French honor for food.  It was rumored he might lose one of those coveted stars.
