1817  The first coffee is planted in Hawaii.

1851  Asa Griggs Candler born, he bought the formula for Coca-Cola from John S. Pemberton for $2,300.  In 1919 he sold it for $25 million.

1853  The Unite States bought what is now southern New Mexico & southern Arizona from Mexico for 10 million dollars.

1937  One of the originators of “Nouvelle Cuisine” Alain Chapel born.

2003  The US Food & Drug Administration banned the dietary supplement ephedra after more than 150 deaths and thousands of illnesses were reported.

2003 The FDA banned the use of ‘downer’ cattle from the human food supply, due to fear of Mad Cow disease.
