1850  Minnesota Governor Ramsey declares that territory’s first Thanksgiving Day.

1865  James Nason receives a patent for a coffee percolator.

1913  Elizabeth David born, she was known as “Britain’s first lady of food.”

1946  Mobster Bugsy Siegel opens The Pink Flamingo Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

1966  The first day of the first Kwanzaa is celebrated in Los Angeles under the direction of Maulana Charring.

2004  A massive earthquake near Sumatra caused a tsunami that swept across the Indian Ocean from Indonesia to Africa.  Over 220,000 died and millions were left homeless. It was one of the worst in recorded history.
