1888  Horn & Hardart open a 15-stool lunchroom, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 

1922  The Mount Royal Hotel in Montreal, Canada opens with 1,046 rooms. 

1937  The Lincoln Tunnel opens connecting Weehawken, New Jersey to Manhattan. It was originally called the Midtown Hudson Tunnel.

1938  A primitive fish called the coelacanth was caught off the coast of South Africa.  It was thought to have been extinct for 80 million years.  Since then another coelacanth population had been discovered in Indonesia.
