Decca Louisville Kentucky
If you venture into Bourbon Country, you might not expect to go out an expect to find to have some really good Italian food. But here two fellow Italians from the New York Metro area are, enjoying Decca to the fullest. Its not only the food, but the wine list, the hospitality and if that is not your thing, then just come here for the whiskey which is incredibly reasonable and have a an appetizer so you don’t get light headed.
I suspect they are able to keep their bourbon pricing so low because it helps promote tourism. Let’s face it, you can’t get these bourbons at that price anywhere else, especially in Manhattan, so you are going to have to travel to Kentucky to find quality bourbon at these prices.
Speaking of appetizers, we started with pan roasted mussels with garbanzo beans (chickpeas), fennel, preserved lime and cilantro, alongside with creamy polenta with turmeric, parmesan, and scallion.
Their pastas are excellent. I never liked pasta with squid ink. I have no problem with the color of black, but somehow it was the mouthfeel and texture that I never cared for. This was the exception. It was very tender and delicious.
If that is not to your liking, for sure, order the linguine with foraged mushrooms, rosemary and whey…
or the butternut squash ravioli with walnut za’atar in brown butter sauce…
They do have an impressive wine list and we were able to enjoy a few of them.
If anyone can make it all the way through to dessert, the chocolate devil’s food cake with chocolate mousse, chocolate Meringue and coffee ice cream.
What is fun about this place is on the way to the restroom there are distractions like silent movies and a real vintage jukebox that plays actual vinyl records from yesteryear.
The Cellar Lounge is a Louisville cocktail and music haven. With a focus on seasonality, they use fresh squeezed juices, house-made syrups and tinctures, always opting for small-batch distilleries, and local breweries. There is a full dinner menu as well as bar snacks are served alongside the libations. Live jazz, vinyl, or sounds from the vintage juke-box set the mood.
They have many other events and happenings as well including Wine night, Jazz, and special menu, wine and cocktail prices on specified nights. This place is a winner for sure.
