Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary

bloodymaryIf you ever been to a restaurant, bar or tavern that serves brunch, you will always see some sort of version of the Bloody Mary. Also known as a bad option to a hangover cure, it has the juice, the vitamin c, the acidity and a splash of hot sauce to waken you up, plus the vodka is easily disguised and you never really see it coming until it kicks in.

There are dozens of variations, but basically its a highball with tomato juice, vodka and a kick of Tabasco or hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce. Garnish with a lemon or lime wedge and celery stalk for stirring and crunching into.

Basically the Bloody Mary itself is a drinkable brunch.  And today you see many trying to out do the others.  My favorite Bloody Mary is one served by the Cloverleaf Tavern on New Year’s Day which includes surf and turf on a skewer with a burger slider, shrimp cocktail, celery stalk and even a thick crisp slice of bacon. It is over the top, but its a completely interactive cocktail.

Bloody Mary Cocktail

  • 60ml or 2 ounces of Vodka
  • 5ml or wedge of lemon juice
  • Black Pepper to taste
  • Dash of Tabasco Sauce
  • Dab of Horseradish
  • Celery Stalk for garnish

Other Favorite Variations:

  • Bloody Maria
  • Bloody Caesar
  • Red Snapper
