1693  Dom Perignon discovers the process for making champagne. He is quoted as saying “Come quickly, I am tasting the stars!”. It was originally a process to preserve food in wine such as peas and vegetables.

1930 The first King Kullen supermarket opens in Queens, New York and is recognized by the Smithsonian Institution as America’s First Supermarket.

1958  The first potato flake manufacturing plant opened in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

1970  Pillsbury registered trademark for “Poppin’ Fresh” the Pillsbury Doughboy.

1970  Cumberland Packing registered “Sweet’n Low” trademark (first used in 1958).
