1812 Agoston Haraszthy de Mokcsa born. He was responsible for importeing 1,400 varieties of grapevines to the Sanoma Valley in California after a devastating blight destroyed much of Europe’s vineyards.
1890 US President Benjamin Harrison signs the first law requiring inspection of meat products.
2007 Leading beer critic Michael Jackson dies, the author of ‘The World Guide to Beer’.
