1814 Henri Nestle born, founder of Nestlé company which is known worldwide for chocolate, baby formula and other food products.
1876 Italian chef Charles Elme Francatelli dies. He was chef to Queen Victoria and author of ‘The Modern Cook’ in 1845 and ‘A Plain Cookery Book for the Working Classes’ in 1852.
1889 Dan Rylands patents a screw cap for bottles.
