1912  British luxury liner Titanic sinks at 2:20 am after striking an iceberg just before Midnight.

1955  The first franchised McDonald’s was opens in Des Plaines, Illinois, by Ray Kroc, who bought the hamburger restaurant owned by the McDonald brothers. Opening day a hamburger was .15 cents and French Fries were .10 cents.
